Each position carries a distinct area of work and a specific educational qualification requirement. The number of positions is provisional and may vary depending on actual requirements.

Eligibility Criteria :

Eligibility for ISRO URSC JRF Recruitment 2026 is two-part: a qualifying postgraduate degree with the required minimum marks, and a valid national-level qualifying test score. Both conditions must be satisfied simultaneously as on the last date, i.e., 11 July 2026. Only passed candidates are eligible – students awaiting final results should not apply.

Educational Qualification :

For positions JRF-E1 to JRF-E12, JRF-M1, JRF-M2, JRF-M3: M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc.(Engg.) or equivalent postgraduate degree in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 60% or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.

For position JRF-E13 (M.Sc. route): M.Sc. in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 65% average of all semesters or CGPA/CPI of 6.84 on a 10-point scale.

For position JRF-E13 (M.Tech. route): M.Tech. or equivalent in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 60% or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.

All degrees must be duly recognised by AICTE/UGC or any other organisation authorised by the Government of India. Essential qualifications must be completed within the stipulated duration of the course as prescribed by the university. Candidates who pursued professional courses through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are not eligible to apply for JRF positions.

Where a university mentions both CGPA and percentage in its degree certificate or consolidated mark sheet, at least one criterion must meet DOS/ISRO eligibility norms. Conversion of CGPA into percentage of marks is not permitted to determine eligibility regardless of any conversion formula prescribed by the university. Rounding of percentage/CGPA is not allowed – values must be entered to the nearest 2 decimal places (e.g., 8.235 entered as 8.23; 8.236 as 8.24).

NET / NET-Equivalent Requirement

Candidates must have qualified one of the following national-level examinations. This is a mandatory requirement – possession of the degree alone does not make a candidate eligible to apply.

CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lectureship (Assistant Professorship)

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) conducted by MoE

JAM (Joint Admission Test) conducted by MoE

JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test)

National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies/institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.

Age Limit (as on 11 July 2026)

The maximum age for all JRF positions is 28 years as on 11 July 2026. Candidates wondering about age relaxation can note that SC/ST candidates get 5 years of relaxation and OBC candidates get 3 years. Additional relaxations as per Government of India orders apply to Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, Widows, Divorced Women, and Women judicially separated from their husbands and not remarried

Fellowship and Stipend :

Selected JRFs at ISRO URSC receive a monthly fellowship stipend of ₹37,000 per month. After completion of two years as JRF, at the sole discretion of ISRO/DOS/URSC, the fellow may be awarded Senior Research Fellow (SRF) status with a stipend of ₹42,000 per month. HRA at prescribed rates is paid if hostel accommodation is not provided at the place of posting. Medical benefits for self are admissible as per extant rules. No Dearness Allowance (DA) is paid. The fellowship amount is treated as basic pay for this purpose.

JRFs are eligible only for casual leave. All female JRFs are entitled to maternity leave as per Government of India instructions. JRFs are also eligible for subsidised canteen facilities. Selected candidates are not entitled to any other benefits or concessions admissible to regular employees.

The initial engagement is for two years, extendable based on assessment of work and project requirements. The maximum combined period of engagement as JRF and SRF together shall not exceed five years. JRFs with aptitude for research will be encouraged to register for a Ph.D. with an external university.

Document Requirements at Interview :

Shortlisted candidates called for the interview must bring originals and self-attested photocopies of all of the following documents to the interview venue in Bengaluru.

All certificates and mark sheets of all degrees and postgraduate degree

Equivalency Certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi – in case of a foreign degree

Proof of work experience

Age proof

CSIR-UGC-NET score card or GATE score card or score card of equivalent national level examination

Caste certificate – for SC/ST/OBC candidates seeking age relaxation

PwBD certificate – for candidates claiming PwBD age relaxation

Relevant certificates issued by Competent Authority for Ex-Servicemen and other categories claiming age relaxation

Troubleshooting and Common Mistakes

Applying through an online government portal involves several steps where errors can cause rejection. The following general guidance helps candidates complete their application successfully.

Photo upload errors: The photograph must be in JPG/JPEG format, not older than 6 months, and not exceeding 500 KB. Uploading any object other than your own passport-size photograph in the designated photo field will result in your candidature being rejected at screening stage under any circumstances.

Incomplete applications rejected outright: Applications submitted without complete information or without a photograph will be summarily rejected. Verify every mandatory field before final submission.

Last-day server load: Online portals experience high traffic close to the deadline. Submit your application well before 11 July 2026 to avoid gateway timeouts or submission failures.

Save your Registration Number: Upon successful registration, an online Registration Number is provided. Store it securely – it is required for all future reference, hall ticket download, and communications.

E-mail ID accuracy: The e-mail ID entered in the application must be valid and actively monitored. Hall tickets and all official communications will be sent exclusively by e-mail. Errors in e-mail ID cannot be corrected after submission.

Multiple applications: If you accidentally submit more than one application for the same position, only the latest application submitted before the closing date will be processed. Ensure that application is complete in all respects.

PDF file size: Each supporting document PDF must not exceed 1 MB. Compress your PDF if the file is larger before uploading.

ODL degree: Candidates who completed their qualifying postgraduate degree through Open and Distance Learning are not eligible. Verify your mode of study before applying.

 

Selection Process :

Selection for ISRO URSC JRF 2026 involves an initial screening stage followed by an interview. Meeting the minimum qualification is necessary but does not automatically entitle a candidate to be called for interview – shortlisting is based on academic performance and other parameters in the online application.

Interview – Conducted in Bengaluru only on a given date. Call letters for the interview will be sent by e-mail only. The interview result will be announced on the ISRO website.

URSC/ISRO reserves the right to change the venue/date of the interview. Outstation candidates shortlisted for interview will be reimbursed to-and-fro Second Class Sleeper Railway fare by the shortest distance from the address in the online application to the interview venue, or non-A/C  government bus fare, or actual fare – whichever is less – on production of proof of journey. If a candidate travels by a higher class, only second class rail fare excluding reservation/sleeper charges will be paid. Travel allowance is payable only to candidates allowed for interview after successful document verification.

Register online – note your Registration Number carefully and preserve it for future reference

Fill in all required fields including a valid and correct e-mail ID – hall tickets will be sent by e-mail only

Upload the following mandatory documents in soft copy:

Recent colour passport-size photograph (not older than 6 months) – JPG/JPEG, maximum 500 KB

Signature – JPG/JPEG, maximum 500 KB

Mark cards of each semester/year with final pass certificate – single PDF, not exceeding 1 MB

SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Serviceman certificate if seeking age relaxation – PDF, not exceeding 1 MB

CSIR-UGC-NET score card or GATE score card or equivalent national examination score card – PDF, not exceeding 1 MB

Submit the application before 11 July 2026

Candidates already employed under Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, or Autonomous Body must follow up the online application with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer, indicating name, position applied for, Position No., and Registration No. on the reverse of the NOC

Avoid submitting multiple applications for the same position – if multiple applications are submitted, only the latest application submitted before the closing date will be processed
