Amit Shah will address the historic rally in Rajouri today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a historic rally in the J&K’s Rajouri town on Tuesday. There, the minister is scheduled to declare ST Reservations for the Pahari community.

Many eager members of their Pahari community from all areas of Rajouri and the adjacent Poonch district have begun to reach Rajouri town, where security is maintained inside the vicinity of the venue and around the town’s bus station.

On Monday evening, Shah met delegations of Paharis Gujjars/Bakarwals Dogras as well as Sikhs in the Raj Bhavan. He reached Jammu around 8 p.m. Monday.

When he reached Jammu, Shah tweeted, “Reached Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day tour. Through the medium of different programmes, I’m eager to have a dialogue with the people of J&K”.

In another statement, he stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Government holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh keeping in view his role in making Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of the country”.

Before he departs for Rajouri, the Union the home minister is expected to make a visit to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Reasi district.

He is scheduled to inaugurate 14 Urban Development Projects, 48 roads totaling 269.41 kilometers, eight bridges and 10 power distribution/transmission projects in J&K.

In addition, he will lay the foundation stones for the 41 water supply schemes in the Jal Jeevan Mission.

He will also distribute Land Pass Books and launch of 225 Citizens Centric Online Services, 1000 cooperatives, and the 2nd edition of the District Good Governance Index Financial Year 2021-22.

Shah is scheduled to meet with senior BJP officials in the afternoon at 3.30 p.m. at the Jammu Convention Centre.

The same place the minister will announce his developmental plans starting at 4.30 p.m.

It is expected that BJP leadership is expected to speak to Shah about the potential effect that the grant the ST designation to Paharis will have on the election prospects of the party.

The granting status of ST designation to Paharis could affect the election results in about a dozen Assembly constituencies, which include Poonch, Mendhar, Surankote, Kalakote, Nowshera, Rajouri, Thanna Mandi, Budhal and Sunderbani in the Jammu division, and Uri, Karnah, Gurez and Trehgam in Kashmir division.

Additionally, there is a large population of Paharis in Pahalgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Lolab and Baramulla Assembly constituencies in the Kashmir division.

He’ll leave for Srinagar at about 6 p.m. today.
