At least 22 Coaches Of Sabarmati Express Derails In UP, No Fatalities

At least 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express (Train number 19168) derailed early Saturday morning in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in a block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station. As per reports several people are said to be injured. So far, no causalities have been reported. As per North Central Railway, the Sabarmati Express 19168 runs between Varanasi Junction and Ahmedabad.

The Sabarmati Express, traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, derailed near Kanpur at 2:35 a.m. after its engine struck an object on the tracks. The impact left noticeable marks. The evidence near the 16th coach is being preserved.

Initial investigations reveal no fractures in the railway track. The Intelligence Bureau and Uttar Pradesh police are probing the matter further. There were no reported injuries to passengers or staff, and arrangements have been made for passengers to continue their journey to Ahmedabad

The Railways has canceled several trains and rerouted others.

Indian Railways swiftly responded by dispatching buses to the site to transport stranded passengers to Kanpur. Preliminary reports suggest that a boulder may have struck the train’s engine, causing significant damage to the engine’s cattle guard.

“The loco pilot said that some boulder hit the cattle guard (front portion) of the engine which got badly damaged and bent,” a Railway Board official told PTI.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by Indian Railways to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
