Batamaloo firefighting operation ends after six long hours

Personnel from 19 stations, 20 vehicles were on job, one vehicle on stand-by for precautions: DFO

Massive fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building on Sunday afternoon in the Batamaloo area here and was controlled after hectic efforts of firefighters for six long hours, even as one vehicle has been put on standby at the spot as a precautionary measure.

The fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building.

“The news about the fire at Batamaloo was received at approximately 2 pm, following which Fire & Emergency Services personnel along with the machinery rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames,” the Division Fire Officer (DFO) Tasaduk Ahamd

He said the fire broke out from the top storey and later engulfed the entire building. It took us six long hours for dousing operation, and since the building contains paint, tarpin, and petroleum products, PVC pipes and other hardware items, that is why it took too much time for us to cool down the fire completely, he said.

The officer added, “We have taken complete control over the situation, and the fire won’t spread anymore as firefighters from nineteen receiving stations are on the job. Additionally, more than twenty vehicles are dousing the flames.”

Tasaduk said the operation lasted for six long hours and one vehicle has been put on standby at the spot to avoid any uneven incident as the building contains petroleum products—(KNO)
