Kulgam encounters end

The death toll in two separate encounters in Kulgam has risen to eight with the killing of two more terrorists on Sunday morning.

The operations, which began on Saturday afternoon in the Mudergham and Frisal Chinnigam areas of Kulgam, have now concluded.

Six terrorists and two soldiers were killed in separate encounters in Kulgam, and the operations have concluded,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi told Greater Kashmir. β€œThe terrorists belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit.”

According to Police, four bodies of terrorists were recovered from Frisal Chinnigam, and two were recovered from Mudergham, along with four AK-47 rifles, two pistols, and other ammunition and incriminating materials.

The terrorists killed in the Frisal Chinnigam encounter have been identified as Yawer Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed Dar of Redwani Bala, Qaimoh; Zahid Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar of Dassend Yaripora; Tawheed Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Satar Rather of Oudurs Kulgam and Shakeel Ahmad Wani, son of Muhammad Shareef Wani of Batpora Khuri Batpora, Kulgam.

The terrorists killed in the Mudergham encounter have been identified as Adil Hussain Wani of Kutipore, Shopian and Faisal Bashir Lone of Kanipora, Shopian.

Police said that the killed terrorists had joined terror ranks during the years 2021 and 2022 and were involved in several crimes including attacks on innocent civilians.

Two soldiers identified as L N K Pardeep Kumar and Sep Pravin Janjal Prabhakar were also killed in the encounters.

The gunfights broke out on Saturday afternoon after J&K Police, Army, and CRPF cordoned off these areas to find the hiding terrorists.

Soon after the searches began, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering encounters.

The gunfight continued till night.

However, amid the tight cordon, the operations were suspended and resumed on Sunday morning.

The bodies of four terrorists who were killed in Frisal Chinnigam were retrieved on Sunday morning and in Mudergham two more bodies of terrorists were recovered from the debris.

This is one of the biggest anti-terrorist operations in the current year in J&K in which six terrorists were killed
