Two houses collapse in Kathua in rain ; 5 feared dead, 3 bodies recovered

Atleast five people buried under a mud house collapsed due to heavy rains in the Bani area, while three more died in separate incidents on Wednesday in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police said that two houses collapsed due to heavy rains in the Bani area, and five people, including children, got buried under the debris in Surjan Morha Aruad Block in Tehsil Bani.

So far, the body of one Mohammad Arif has been recovered by the team of police, the SDRF, assisted by the locals carrying out the rescue operation.

“Flash floods and landslides hit remote parts of Bani, while teams from the administration and police have been rushed to the spot for necessary action,” said an official.

He added that one body has been recovered so far, and further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, a woman identified as Naseema Begum of Mandhota, Tehsil Bani, died when she was hit by a landslide. The body of the woman has been recovered.

In another incident, a teenager named Ajay Singh of Sitti has been recovered from the debris of another landslide in Bani near his residence, said police.

A search operation is also in progress to trace Sham Lal of Bhullari, Bani, who was buried due to a landslide.
