MeT Forecasts Hot, Humid Weather in J&K Till Aug 27

Rain lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, bringing light to moderate showers to several areas, but the respite may be short-lived as the weather department forecast hot and humid conditions with intermittent rainfall across the Union Territory till August 27.

The Meteorological Centre said scattered to widespread areas could receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers from August 21 to 22, with brief intense showers possible at isolated places, particularly during the early morning and afternoon.

From August 23 onwards, the heat and humidity are expected to return, punctuated by brief spells of rain and thundershowers.

Katra emerged as the wettest station, recording 39 mm of rainfall in the preceding 24 hours, while Gulmarg received 14.2 mm. Pahalgam, Kukernag, Batote, Banihal and other areas also received showers.

Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, while its minimum settled at a muggy 21 degrees—3.6 degrees above normal.

The weather department advised people in vulnerable and hilly areas to remain cautious during intense rainfall spells, warning of brief heavy showers. Farmers, however, have been advised to continue harvesting and other agricultural activities depending on local weather conditions.

For now, it appears to be a familiar August mix: rain, humidity—and little real escape from the heat.
