Candle marches held in Shopian, Pulwama to protest killing of ex-serviceman in Kulgam

People from different walks of life on Tuesday  evening  took out candle light marches in south Kashmir’s  Shopian and Pulwama districts to denounce the killing of an ex-serviceman in Kulgam.

On Monday, an ex-Army man was killed and his wife and niece were injured when gunmen opened fire on them in Behibagh, an outlying village located at the tail end of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Officials say that hundreds of people are being questioned by the police and security forces to nab the attackers.

Scores of civil society members, traders, local residents  and officials from civil and police  administration in Shopian took out a candle light march to deplore the attack.

Condemning the attack, social activist Magray Mansoor said the killing of the former soldier was an UnIslamic act. “According to our religion, whoever kills one person, it is as if he has killed all of mankind,” said Magray.

In neighbouring Pulwama, a similar march was held, with participants unequivocally condemning the attack and calling for peace and harmony.
