Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 strikes Kargil, no casulaties
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Kargil region of Ladakh in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremor was recorded at 2:50 AM IST, with its epicenter at latitude 33.37°N and longitude 76.76°E, at a depth of 15 kilometers beneath the surface.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or any damage to property. However, the tremors caused panic among residents, with many rushing out of their homes in fear.
Ladakh, located in a seismically active zone, frequently experiences earthquakes due to its proximity to the tectonic boundary between the Indian and Eurasian plates.
