India, Pakistan hold fresh Track Two talks in Colombo & Bangkok
Indian and Pakistani representatives recently participated in a new round of Track Two diplomatic discussions held in Colombo and Bangkok, WION reported.
The talks focused on improving communication mechanisms during times of crisis and identifying measures to prevent or manage potential escalations between the two countries. Participants engaged in candid discussions on sensitive issues, including terrorism and water-related concerns, and exchanged views on how the outcomes of these informal dialogues could contribute to official diplomatic channels.
Track One diplomacy refers to direct negotiations between serving government officials of India and Pakistan. However, formal government-level engagement between the two nations remains suspended.

Despite the freeze in official talks, Track Two initiatives have continued. Bilateral relations remain strained, particularly after the May 2025 conflict that followed the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of more than 20 people, most of them tourists.
The conflict saw four days of intense military exchanges, including drone operations, before a ceasefire came into effect on 10 May. Since then, both countries have largely avoided public escalation, although formal dialogue has not resumed.
In this vacuum, retired military officers, former diplomats, academics, and media figures have met in neutral locations to maintain communication and reduce tensions through Track Two engagement.
Several such meetings have taken place since the conflict, including discussions in West Asian capitals and a notable session in Doha involving prominent personalities from both sides. Reports of these Track Two contacts first emerged in April 2026.
India has consistently maintained since 2019 that meaningful dialogue cannot take place as long as terrorism remains a concern.
Trade ties are limited, diplomatic missions operate with reduced staff, and people-to-people exchanges remain restricted.

Nevertheless, the continuation of informal engagements reflects a pragmatic effort to keep channels of communication open.
As expected, neither government has publicly acknowledged these discussions.
