Jammu Kashmir Govt Approves Six Free LPG Cylinders Annually For AAY Families

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved a scheme to provide six free LPG cylinders annually to families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

The announcement led to protests in the House, with BJP members raising slogans including “Jhooti Sarkaar” and “Yeh dhokha hai”.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma alleged that the government had promised 12 free LPG cylinders to every household during the elections but had now limited the benefit to six cylinders for AAY families.

“Two years ago you announced 12 free cylinders for every household. Today the Minister says six cylinders will be given to AAY only,” the LoP said, questioning the change in the scope of the promised benefit.

He also accused the government of betraying poor families and raised questions over other commitments, including the promise of one lakh jobs and 200 units of free electricity.

The remarks prompted objections from the treasury benches as BJP members continued raising slogans, resulting in a heated exchange between members of the two sides.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened and attempted to restore order as the disruption continued in the Assembly.
