Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 10th Sep 2026 : NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road & Mughal Road Traffic Plan
Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a detailed traffic plan and advisory for September 10, 2026, in view of inclement weather, road conditions, construction work and the possibility of landslides and shooting stones.
Traffic Situation on NH-44
From September 8, 2026, 4:00 PM to September 9, 2026, 4:00 PM, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane stretches and the undulating and uneven surface of the road at Dewal, Udhampur. Slow movement was also reported on the single-lane stretch between Marog and Khoi Nallah, Patnitop.
Traffic was further affected due to the breakdown of two vehicles between Digdol and Banihal.
Weather Advisory
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public has been advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest road status.
Commuters should check updates from the Traffic Police Control Units (TCUs) in Srinagar and Ramban and follow the official traffic advisories before starting their journey.
Traffic Regulated at Dewal
Traffic is being managed on a regulated basis at Dewal, Udhampur, on NH-44, due to a single-lane stretch of around 30–40 metres.
Night Travel on Jammu-Srinagar Highway
LMV passengers and private car operators have been advised to preferably undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during daytime.

Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of:
Shooting stones and landslides.
Ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.
Traffic disruptions caused by adverse road conditions.
Advisory for Tankers on NH-44
Due to widening work being carried out by NHAI on the Digdol-Khooni Nallah axis, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil tankers will remain restricted on the affected stretch during daytime.
The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material through tunnels will also remain restricted. Such tankers will be allowed beyond Chenani only after 5:00 PM and up to 6:00 AM.
Tankers have been advised to plan their journey accordingly and avoid travelling during restricted hours.
Advisory for Goods Carriers
Goods carriers, particularly those transporting fresh and perishable stock, have been advised to plan their movement according to the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.
Operators should take into account the possibility of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Fuel Advisory for HMV Operators
HMV operators have been advised not to undertake their journey without sufficient fuel.
Vehicle owners should ensure that their vehicles have adequate fuel and should carry sufficient fuel before starting their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Avoid Unnecessary Halts
Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone areas.
Unnecessary stoppages can create congestion and may also increase the risk to commuters in vulnerable stretches.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for September 10, 2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars/goods carriers will be allowed from both sides of the Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH-44) — Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid creating congestion.
The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the prevailing road conditions.
Army/Security Forces Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles will be allowed to move from both sides of NH-44, from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Security Forces convoys will move only after confirming the latest highway status from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244
As per the concerned traffic order, and subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed to ply from both sides after receiving the green signal from the road maintenance agency (NHIDCL).
Vehicles will be permitted to move:
From PP Panjran towards Anantnag between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
From Daksum towards Kishtwar between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
No vehicle will be allowed to move after the prescribed cut-off timings.
TCU Jammu, TCU Ramban and TCU Srinagar will inform concerned stakeholders about the cut-off timings.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road
As per the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, and subject to weather and good road conditions, LMVs will be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.
Vehicles travelling from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Kargil towards Srinagar will be allowed only after receiving the green signal from the concerned road maintenance agency.
The movement schedule includes:
Vehicles will be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Kargil towards Srinagar up to 12:00 noon.
HMVs will not be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 12:00 noon and 5:00 PM.
No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off time.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully and use anti-skid chains where required to maintain better grip on slippery roads.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform concerned authorities regarding the cut-off timings.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only will be allowed on Mughal Road after receiving the green signal from the concerned road maintenance agency.
Vehicles will be permitted to move:
From Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Srinagar.
From Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch.
Movement will be regulated during the prescribed time window, with the cut-off timings to be followed strictly.
No vehicle will be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off time. TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned regarding the movement schedule.

Traffic Police has advised people to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest road status from the Traffic Control Units.
