Travel Advisory for NH-44

Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators and private car drivers are advised to undertake their journeys during daylight hours. Night travel should be avoided where possible because of the risk of shooting stones, landslides, nomadic herd movement and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

The advisory also highlights widening work along the Digdol–Nashri hill section. The movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers carrying inflammable material remains restricted through tunnels during daytime hours.

Accordingly, the movement of such tankers is to be planned in accordance with the prescribed timing, with movement beyond Chenani permitted only after 5:00 PM and up to 5:00 AM, as specified in the advisory.

Goods carriers transporting fresh produce, perishable goods and livestock should follow the latest instructions issued by the Traffic Police to minimise delays and ensure safe movement.

Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operators and vehicle owners are also advised to:

Avoid overloading their vehicles.

Check vehicle fitness before departure.

Carry sufficient fuel for the journey.

Avoid unnecessary stops between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone and shooting-stone areas.

2. Traffic Plan for Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 on 13 October 2026

According to the traffic plan issued for 13 October 2026, subject to favourable weather and improved road conditions, Light Motor Vehicles, passenger vehicles, private cars and goods carriers will be permitted to move from both directions on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

Traffic movement from Jammu towards Srinagar and from Srinagar towards Jammu will depend on prevailing road conditions and instructions from the concerned authorities.

The Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Jammu and Ramban will coordinate regarding the condition of the highway and communicate necessary updates.

Army and BSF Convoy Movement

The movement of Army and Border Security Force (BSF) vehicles on NH-44 will also be subject to favourable weather and suitable road conditions.

Security force convoys are expected to move only after confirmation of the highway’s status from the Traffic Control Unit at Ramban. Commuters should follow the instructions issued by traffic personnel whenever convoy movement is taking place.

Important: These timings are conditional and must not be treated as an unconditional guarantee of passage. Travellers should confirm clearance before departure.

5. Mughal Road (NH-701A) Traffic Update

The Mughal Road connects the Poonch region with Shopian in south Kashmir. Traffic movement on this mountainous road depends on weather conditions, road maintenance and clearance from the concerned agency.
