Traffic Update
From 20-09-2026, 1800 hrs to 21-09-2026, 1800 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to a single lane, undulating and uneven road surface at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. In addition, 04 vehicles broke down between Ramban and Banihal, and 07 nomadic herds were crossing the Banihal–Nachlana area.
Due to the ongoing movement of nomadic herds, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwari Pather is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur, on NH-44 due to a single lane of approximately 30–40 metres.
Important Advisory for Passengers and LMV Operators
Passengers and LMV operators are advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway during the daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of shooting stones, landslides, movement of nomads from the valley, and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Advisory for Tankers on Jammu-Srinagar NHW
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdol–Khooni Nallah axis of Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during the daytime between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs.
As the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels, upward-bound tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their journey accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Advisory for Goods Carriers and HMVs
Goods carriers (HMV/LMV) carrying fresh, perishable goods and livestock are advised to load their vehicles according to advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time.

There is a possibility of shooting stones, landslides, and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV operators and owners are requested to refrain from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Vehicle owners should double-check the fitness of their vehicles and ensure adequate fuel before undertaking their journey.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide and shooting stone-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 22-09-2026
1. Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger/private cars, and HMVs (good carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), i.e., from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding road conditions.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
They shall move after confirming the status of the NHW from TCU Ramban.
2. Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per orders issued by the Divisional Commissioner and the District Magistrate, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Kishtwar–Sinthan road towards Srinagar and vice versa, after receiving the green signal from road maintenance agencies (NHIDCL).
Vehicles shall be allowed to move:
Kishtwar towards Sinthan: Between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs.
Daksum towards Kishtwar: Between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings. TCU Jammu/Ramban and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
3. SSG Road
As per the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, vide No. DivCom/Dev/100/2025/4382-4410 dated 14-05-2025, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road, i.e., from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move after receiving the green signal from road maintenance agencies, up to 1300 hrs.
However, vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain better grip on slippery roads. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
Security forces convoys moving on the SSG Road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disturbed.
4. Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicle movement comprising LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e., from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move:
Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian: Between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch: Between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
Important Advisory
People are advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the Traffic Control Units.
