J&K Traffic Advisory for September 24, 2026

The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a detailed traffic plan and advisory for September 24, 2026, covering the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road, SSG Road and Mughal Road.

Commuters have been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey and follow lane discipline and traffic regulations.

Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 Traffic Update

Traffic Police reported very slow movement on NH-44 due to single-lane stretches, uneven road surfaces and other road-related issues.

Slow movement has particularly been observed around Dwal and Udhampur, as well as on the single-lane stretch between Marog and Nachlana. The movement of nomadic herds and breakdown of vehicles have also contributed to traffic congestion.

Traffic is being managed on a regulated basis at Dwal and Udhampur, where the single-lane stretch may result in delays of around 30–40 minutes.

Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid unnecessary overtaking and wrong-lane driving.

Advisory for Passengers and LMV Operators

Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators have been advised to preferably undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 during daytime.

Night travel should be avoided where possible because of the possibility of:

Shooting stones and landslides

Movement of nomadic herds

Ongoing construction work

Possible traffic disruptions between Ramban and Banihal

Drivers are advised to exercise caution while travelling through vulnerable stretches.

Advisory for Tankers Carrying Inflammable Material

Due to ongoing widening work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdo-Khooni Nalla axis of NH-44, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of tankers carrying inflammable material through certain tunnels.

The movement of tankers is restricted during specified daytime hours. Tankers are permitted beyond Chenani only after 5:00 PM and up to 9:00 AM.

Tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Advisory for HMVs Carrying Perishable Goods and Livestock

Goods carriers carrying fresh perishable items and livestock have been advised to plan their movement according to the advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.

Operators should take into account the possibility of shooting stones and ongoing construction work, particularly on stretches between Ramban and Banihal.

Drivers Advised to Carry Sufficient Fuel

HMV owners and operators have been advised to avoid overloading their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel while travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Vehicle owners have also been asked to double-check the fitness of their vehicles before undertaking the journey.

Commuters have further been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone areas.

Traffic Plan for September 24, 2026 Jammu-Srinagar NH-44

Subject to favourable weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and goods carriers will be allowed to move from both sides of the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

Vehicles may travel from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

Commuters have been advised to strictly follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving can cause congestion and disrupt traffic movement.

The Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Jammu and Ramban will coordinate regarding the prevailing road conditions.

Army/SF Convoy Movement

Army and Security Forces convoy movement will be permitted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa, subject to confirmation of the road status from the concerned Traffic Control Units.

Other road users are advised to cooperate with convoy movement and avoid creating unnecessary congestion.

Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road

As per the directions issued by the concerned authorities and subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed to move from both sides on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag route.

Traffic movement will remain subject to specified cut-off timings.

Vehicles will be permitted from PPS Parnass towards Anantnag between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, while movement from Daksum towards Kishtwar will be allowed between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

No vehicle will be permitted after the prescribed cut-off timings. Traffic Control Units at Jammu/Ramban/Srinagar will communicate the cut-off timings to concerned commuters.

SSG Road Traffic Advisory

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs will be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Kangan road.

Vehicles travelling from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa will be allowed to proceed after receiving the green signal from the concerned road maintenance agencies.

Vehicles moving from Sonamarg towards Kargil will be permitted between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off time.

Motorists travelling on the SSG Road have been advised to carry and use anti-skid chains where required because portions of the road may become slippery.

Traffic authorities at Sonamarg and Kargil will inform concerned parties about the cut-off timings.

Convoy operators have also been advised to plan their movement in a way that does not disturb normal civilian traffic.

Mughal Road Traffic Update

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency, vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from both sides on Mughal Road.

Traffic will operate between Poonch and Shopian and vice versa.

Vehicles will be allowed to move from Chandimarg towards Shopian and from Heerpora/Shopian towards Poonch during the prescribed morning hours.

No vehicle will be permitted to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

The concerned Traffic Control Units will communicate the cut-off timings to commuters and other stakeholders.

Important Advice for Commuters

Traffic Police has advised the public to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the concerned Traffic Control Units.

Travellers should:

Check road conditions before starting their journey.

Follow lane discipline.

Avoid unnecessary overtaking.

Avoid wrong-lane driving.

Carry sufficient fuel for long journeys.

Ensure vehicle fitness before travelling.

Avoid unnecessary stoppages on vulnerable stretches.

Follow instructions issued by Traffic Police and road maintenance agencies.

Exercise extra caution on stretches vulnerable to shooting stones, landslides and slippery road conditions.
