J&K Traffic Advisory for September 26, 2026

Srinagar/Jammu: The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar, has issued an important J&K Traffic Advisory for September 26, 2026, regarding the movement of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Srinagar-Sonamarg road, Mughal Road and other important routes.

The advisory comes amid ongoing road construction, shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomadic herds and other traffic-related restrictions on several stretches. Commuters have been advised to confirm the status of their respective routes with Traffic Control Units before starting their journey.

Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 Traffic Update

According to the Traffic Police Headquarters, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 between 24 September 2026 at 1600 hours and 25 September 2026 at 1600 hours.

The slow movement was reported due to a single-lane traffic stretch at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as on the single-lane section between Marog and Kishtwar Pather. Traffic movement was also affected by the breakdown of vehicles between Marog and Nachlana and the movement of nomadic herds crossing the Banihal-Nachlana area.

Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur, on NH-44, where the single-lane section is approximately 30 to 40 metres long.

Commuters advised to avoid night travel

Passenger Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators have been advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during daytime hours.

Night travel should be avoided because of the possibility of shooting stones and landslides, movement of nomadic herds and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, all of which may lead to inconvenience and traffic disruption.

Restriction on movement of oil and gas tankers

The Traffic Police has also issued an advisory concerning the movement of oil and gas tankers on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

In view of widening work being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Dogri-Pather stretch of NH-44, the movement of HMVs, including oil and gas tankers, will remain restricted during daytime hours.

The restriction applies between 0900 hours and 1900 hours, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material through restricted areas may create safety concerns.

After 1900 hours and up to 0900 hours, tanker movement will be permitted subject to the prevailing road and traffic conditions.

Tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid unnecessary delays.

Advisory for goods carriers carrying perishable items

Goods carrier and HMVs transporting fresh and perishable stock have been advised to load their vehicles according to the directions issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.

The advisory is particularly important because shooting stones and landslides, along with ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, may cause inconvenience to commuters and commercial vehicles.

Operators carrying time-sensitive or perishable goods should therefore take the latest road status into account before beginning their journey.

HMVs advised to ensure vehicle fitness

HMV operators and owners have been advised to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel while travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

Traffic authorities have specifically advised HMV operators to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and properly maintained before undertaking the journey.

Avoid unnecessary halting between Ramban and Banihal

Commuters have also been advised to avoid unnecessary halting between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near areas where road construction and other highway-related activities are underway.

Drivers are requested to follow traffic instructions and maintain caution while travelling through vulnerable stretches.

Traffic Plan and Advisory for September 26, 2026

The Traffic Police has issued route-wise instructions for September 26, 2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions.

Jammu-Srinagar NH-44

LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and good carriers will be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

However, traffic movement will remain subject to the condition of the road and the prevailing weather.

Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid wrong-side driving, as such violations can result in accidents and traffic congestion.

Drivers should follow the instructions of Traffic Police personnel deployed along the highway.

Army and Security Forces Convoy Movement

Security Forces vehicles will be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, subject to confirmation of the highway’s status from the Traffic Control Unit (TCU), Ramban.

Security and convoy movement will therefore depend on the prevailing road and traffic conditions.

Kishwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 Traffic Advisory

Traffic movement on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 will also be regulated according to weather and road conditions.

As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Kishtwar, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag, LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars will be permitted from both sides.

Vehicles will be allowed to move from Kishtwar towards Sinthan and vice versa on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

Traffic from Pampore towards Anantnag will be allowed between 0600 hours and 1600 hours. Similarly, traffic from Daksum towards Kishtwar will be permitted between 0900 hours and 1600 hours.

No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timing.

Traffic authorities have advised commuters to contact TCU Jammu, Ramban and TCU Srinagar for the latest information regarding the cut-off timings before starting their journey.

Srinagar-Sonamarg Road Traffic Advisory

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, LMVs will be permitted from both sides, subject to fair weather and good road conditions.

Vehicles travelling from Srinagar towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar will be allowed to proceed only after receiving the green signal from the concerned road maintenance agency.

Traffic moving from Sonamarg towards Kargil will be allowed between 1300 hours and 1700 hours.

Vehicles will not be permitted to move after the specified cut-off time.

Motorists have been advised to carry sufficient fuel and exercise caution while travelling on the road. Traffic authorities have also asked commuters to cooperate with the traffic management system to ensure smooth movement and avoid unnecessary congestion.

Mughal Road Traffic Advisory

Traffic movement on Mughal Road (NH-701A) will also remain subject to fair weather and good road conditions.

After receiving clearance from the road maintenance agency, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be allowed to travel on the Mughal Road from both sides.

Vehicles travelling from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa will be permitted to move after receiving clearance from the concerned authorities.

Traffic movement from Poonch towards Poshana will be allowed during the specified morning hours, while traffic from Shopian towards Poshana will also be regulated according to the notified timings.

No vehicle will be permitted after the prescribed cut-off timing.

The Traffic Police has advised commuters to confirm the latest status of the road before undertaking their journey.

Important Advisory for Commuters

Traffic Police Headquarters has urged the public to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the concerned Traffic Control Units.

Since road conditions can change because of weather, landslides, shooting stones, construction work, breakdowns and other unforeseen circumstances, commuters should avoid relying solely on previously announced timings.

Drivers travelling on NH-44 and other major roads should:

Check the latest traffic status before starting their journey.

Prefer daytime travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Avoid unnecessary halting on vulnerable stretches.

Follow lane discipline and never drive on the wrong side of the road.

Carry sufficient fuel, particularly when travelling on long highway stretches.

Ensure vehicles are roadworthy before beginning the journey.

Follow instructions issued by Traffic Police and road maintenance agencies.

Avoid travelling after the notified cut-off time on restricted routes.

Exercise extra caution in areas vulnerable to landslides and shooting stones.
