Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 28th Oct 2026,NH-44, SSG Road, & Travel Guidelines
Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a traffic advisory for the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other major roads for October 28, 2026. Commuters, passengers, transporters, goods carriers and security force convoys have been advised to follow the prescribed traffic regulations and confirm the latest road conditions before starting their journeys.
The advisory highlights slow traffic movement on NH-44 due to single-lane restrictions, road construction work, vehicle breakdowns and the movement of nomadic herds. Restrictions and specific movement timings have also been prescribed for the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road and the Mughal Road.
Traffic Situation on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
According to Traffic Police Headquarters, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 from October 26, 2026, at 6:00 PM to October 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
The slow movement was attributed to single-lane traffic arrangements, road-surface diversion work at Udhampur, the breakdown of three vehicles between Ramban and Nachlana, and the movement of four nomadic herds crossing the Banihal-Nachlana stretch.
Traffic was also managed in a regulated manner at Dharmal, Udhampur, due to single-lane restrictions over approximately 30–40 metres.
Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline, avoid unnecessary overtaking and follow the instructions issued by traffic personnel. Drivers should expect delays, particularly along road stretches affected by construction and traffic regulation.
Important Instructions for Passengers and LMV Operators
Passengers travelling in Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), including private cars, have been advised to plan their journeys carefully on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Drivers should avoid travelling during periods of heavy congestion wherever possible. They should also remain cautious on stretches affected by shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, as these conditions may cause inconvenience and delays.
Restrictions on Movement of Oil Tankers
Due to widening work being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdoal-Khooni Nallah stretch of NH-44, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers will remain restricted during daytime hours.
The movement of these tankers will be restricted between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM because vehicles carrying inflammable materials pose additional risks when passing through narrow or construction-affected stretches.
Oil and gas tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Their movement will be permitted beyond Chenani only after 6:00 PM, subject to the prevailing traffic situation and directions issued by the authorities.
Advisory for Goods Carriers and Perishable Goods Transporters
Goods carriers, including heavy motor vehicles and light motor vehicles transporting fresh and perishable goods, have been advised to load their vehicles according to the schedule issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.
This arrangement is intended to regulate traffic movement and reduce congestion caused by construction work, lane restrictions and other road-related issues.
Instructions for HMVs and LMVs
Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) owners and operators have been advised to avoid overloading their vehicles.
Drivers should also ensure that their vehicles are mechanically fit and carry sufficient fuel before starting their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. These precautions are particularly important because traffic congestion, road restrictions and unexpected delays may increase travel time.
Commuters have further been advised to avoid unnecessary stoppages between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas and shooting-stone zones.
