TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR

From 06-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 07-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane, undulating & uneven surface of the road at Dawal, Udhampur as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwar Pather. In addition to the breakdown of 03 vehicles between Chigdil and Ganimal.

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter/X and Facebook page.

Traffic managed in regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane for about 30-40 min.

Passengers/LGV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of work undertaken by NHAI of widening the existing road stretch on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of HMV shall be restricted on certain stretches during daytime. The movement of HMV carrying loaded material shall be restricted through tunnels during 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and ensure safety.

Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicle as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halting between Ramban and Banihal, especially near shooting stone-prone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 08-09-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars/MMVs (Goods carriers) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), viz. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/SSG Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), via Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/CT/2026-27/578-85 dated 09-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNG/2025-26/487-82 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signal from concerned road maintenance agencies, all LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides, viz. Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa, on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from PP Panana towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1000 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing.

TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will keep all concerned about the cut-off timings.

SSG ROAD

As per order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/4392-4610 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1500 hrs.

HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains if they are moving on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will keep all concerned informed about the cut-off timings.

SSG convoy movement on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicular movement (LMV followed by MMV up to 10 tyre) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarg (Gaffar?) towards Shopian and from Hirpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to move after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per the orders issued by the Chief Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DMS/ADM-S/26-27/321-31 dated 02-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall keep all concerned informed regarding the cut-off timings.
