J&K Govt Moves Resolution Seeking TET Exemption For Pre-Oct 2019 Teachers
Members seek detailed discussion; debate on resolution to continue on Thursday; Minister Sakeena Itoo says matter important and should be taken up after detailed discussion
Srinagar, Sept 22 : Minister for Education Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday moved a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly seeking amendments to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, to exempt teachers appointed before October 31, 2019 from appearing in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
As per news agency , the resolution urges the Union Government to make the necessary statutory amendment to Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, for providing the proposed exemption.
The resolution further urges the Union Government to take all necessary legal steps and issue the requisite notification through the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for exemption from the TET.
Legislators Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Waheed Ur Rehman Para and Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh participated in the discussion and spoke on various aspects of the resolution.

During the proceedings, Sakeena Itoo said the matter was important and should be discussed in detail before the resolution is taken up for passage.

Following the Minister’s remarks, members agreed that the issue should first be discussed in the House before it is passed.
The debate on the resolution will continue on the next working day of the Assembly, Thursday.
