From 18-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 19-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic, including a number of trucks on the road at Banihal. Overloading was also observed on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, including Mango and Kishwar Point. In addition to the breakdown of 02 vehicles at Nachilana and Panthyal.

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from Srinagar/Jammu Traffic Control Units. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.

Traffic managed on a regulated manner at Darmal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic for about 30–40 minutes.

Passengers/LWV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones, landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol-Khooni Nalla axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW from tomorrow, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime, between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1900 hrs upto 0900 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carrier/Heavy Motor Vehicle operators carrying perishable goods are advised to load their vehicles as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Operators/Owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Further, they are requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 20-08-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs/Passenger/HPVs/Private Cars/HMVs (Good Carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking, wrong-lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/BSF Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They will move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Jammu.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per order issued by the SSE Mechanical Division, vide No. SMD/2026-27578-80 dated 09-07-2026, and the SSE Kishtwar vide No. SSE/K/2026/26-67-88 dated 03-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after completion of scheduled road maintenance activities, LMVs/Passenger/HPVs/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from HP Panzam towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1800 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG Road

As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir, vide No. DVCOM/Dev/1002/2026/4322-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only, after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1800 hrs.

However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains in case of slippery road conditions.

TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

Sufficient movement of traffic on SSG road shall be maintained in such a manner that traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREW), vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimari (Buffliaz) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per the orders issued by the DGM Traffic Engineering, Srinagar, vide No. D/46/2026 dated 08-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
