From 13-07-2026 (1000 hrs) to 18-07-2026 (1000 hrs), slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane road conditions between Marg and Kish Pather, along with the breakdown of vehicles between Ramban and Banihal.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), including the possibility of heavy rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the road status from the Traffic Control Units (TCUs). Commuters should also check the latest updates on the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page before travelling.
Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old Jawahar Tunnel Road to avoid congestion and screening at Lambhar.
Similarly, commuters travelling towards Batote, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, and adjoining areas from Jammu should use the old Patnitop Road to avoid congestion at Nashri.
Passengers travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) are advised to prefer daytime travel. Night travel should be avoided due to the risk of shooting stones, landslides, ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, and adverse weather conditions.
Goods carriers transporting fresh perishable commodities should load their vehicles strictly as per the advisory issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters, as Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) are permitted to ply only on alternate days.
Fruit growers and transporters carrying fresh produce from the Valley towards Jammu are advised to load and park their vehicles before 8:00 AM at the designated locations between Navyug Tunnel and Levdora on the day of HMV movement to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
Owners and operators of HMVs are requested not to overload their vehicles. They should ensure that their vehicles are mechanically fit and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking their journey on NH-44.
Motorists are also advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone areas.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for 20-07-2026
Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and favourable road conditions:
LMV passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed to travel from both Jammu and Srinagar sides.
Heavy Motor Vehicles (load carriers) will be allowed on an alternate-day basis.
Traffic Control Units at Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban shall coordinate before releasing traffic.
Local commuters within Jammu and Kashmir will be allowed to travel up to 2000 hrs at Nagrota and Qazigund after verification of valid photo identity cards, which must be carried during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra period.
Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Advisory
In view of the inclement weather forecast issued by the IMD, the UT Administration has decided that the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra shall remain suspended until further orders.
Accordingly, no vehicle carrying Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims will be allowed to proceed from Jammu or Ramban towards Srinagar.
Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Movement
Subject to fair weather, better road conditions, and assessment of the prevailing traffic situation on NH-44:
HMVs will be allowed to move from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar.
No HMV will be permitted after 1900 hrs.
Traffic Control Unit Udhampur shall coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing HMVs.
To ensure smooth movement during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the UT Administration has directed:
Empty petrol, diesel, LPG bulk gas tankers.
Empty LPG cylinder trucks.
Empty FCI vehicles.
Other vehicles up to 10 tyres carrying perishable commodities.
shall return to Jammu via the Mughal Road on the days when up-convoy movement is scheduled on NH-44.
Army Convoy Movement
Army authorities are advised to plan convoy movements only after the passage of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra convoys while maintaining a safe distance to avoid inconvenience to commuters on NH-44.
The Yatra convoy is scheduled to be released:
From Nagrota (Jammu) at 6:00 AM.
From Qazigund at 11:30 AM.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag Road (NH-244)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after receiving clearance from the road maintenance agencies:
LMV passenger vehicles and private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides.
Vehicles from Padarna towards Anantnag shall be allowed between 0300 hrs and 1000 hrs.
Vehicles from Daksum towards Kishtwar shall be allowed between 0900 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
Traffic Control Units shall notify all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
Srinagar–Sonamarg–Kargil Road
Subject to fair weather and favourable road conditions:
LMVs shall be allowed from both Srinagar and Kargil sides.
Vehicles from Sonamarg towards Kargil shall be allowed up to 1300 hrs.
HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs.
No vehicle shall be permitted after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains for safe driving on slippery road stretches.
Army convoy movement on this route should be planned in a manner that does not disrupt civilian traffic.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and clearance from the road maintenance agencies:
LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 10 tyres only) shall be allowed from both directions.
Vehicles from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian shall be allowed between 0600 hrs and 1700 hrs.
Vehicles from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch shall be allowed between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be permitted after the prescribed cut-off timings.
Traffic Control Units at Jammu and Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
