JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 21th August 2026
TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 19-08-2026, 1800 hrs to 20-08-2026, 1800 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic and uneven surface of the road at Chenani, Udhampur, as well as at Kishtwar Pather between Morgo and Khankandi Pather. In addition, a vehicle breakdown was reported at Kishtwar Pather.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units (TCUs), Traffic Police Headquarters, traffic helplines and official social media pages.
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to a single-lane stretch of about 30–40 metres.
Passengers and LMV operators are advised to prefer daytime travel on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/boulders, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of the widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdol–Khooni Nallah axis of the Jammu–Srinagar NHW, the movement of Rathore-bound oil and LPG tankers shall remain restricted during daytime between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs. The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of such tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1600 hrs up to 0800 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Goods-carrying HMVs/LMVs carrying fresh/perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/boulders as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners are also advised to double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking a journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
