JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 22nd July 2026

The following traffic advisory has been issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, in view of the prevailing weather conditions and road status across the Union Territory.
General Advisory
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the MeT Department with the likelihood of heavy rainfall over the next few days, commuters are advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest traffic status from the Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Jammu and Srinagar. Passengers should also check the status of NH-44 before starting their journey.
Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawarhar Tunnel to avoid congestion at Lamberi (Banihal).
Similarly, commuters travelling to Batote, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and adjoining areas are advised to use the old road via Pattnitop while travelling on Jammu side in order to avoid congestion at Nashri.
Passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are advised to prefer journeys during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of shooting stones, landslides and other unforeseen situations, especially in vulnerable areas.
Goods carriers (HCVs/LMVs) carrying fresh perishable fruit and other essential commodities are advised to avoid overloading. Such vehicles should be parked only at designated places.
Fruit growers and other transporters are advised to ensure proper maintenance of vehicles before undertaking journeys. They should avoid travelling before obtaining confirmation from the Traffic Control Units at Jammu and Srinagar regarding road status.
HMVs, fruit-load carriers and other heavy vehicles must ensure that all vehicle fitness requirements are fulfilled before starting their journey on NH-44.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for 21-07-2026
Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs (Passenger/Fresh Fruit carriers) shall be allowed from both sides of Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) carrying essential commodities shall be allowed on the highway only after assessing road and traffic conditions.
Local commuters within the Jammu and Kashmir region are advised to travel during daylight hours only.
Srinagar–Sonamarg–Zojila Road
Traffic movement on this road will be regulated based on weather conditions and clearance from the concerned authorities.
Mughal Road (Shopian–Poonch)
Subject to weather conditions, LMVs and other permitted vehicles may be allowed after assessment of road conditions.
Sinthan Road
Traffic movement shall remain subject to road clearance and weather conditions.
Important Instructions
Follow instructions issued by Traffic Police personnel deployed on the highway.
Do not overtake in vulnerable stretches.
Maintain lane discipline and safe distance between vehicles.
Carry valid driving documents and ensure your vehicle is roadworthy.
Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain or landslide warnings.
