From 27-07-2026, 1600 hrs to 28-07-2026, 1600 hrs, very light rain is expected in NH-44 due to a single lane, undulating & uneven surface of the road at Dalwas, Udhampur as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, in addition to the breakdown of old vehicles between Ramban and Banihal.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the MeT Department, with a key spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic Police Twitter handle and TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of NH-44 from the Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
In view of the active damage to NH-44 due to Bhagat, the movement of vehicles carrying bovine animals or through the single carriageway causing obstructions to the movement of local commuters within the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir shall not be allowed after the cut-off timings at Nagrota (Jammu) along the single road, giving priority to Yatra Convoy, subject to interspersed of valid proof of identity cards which commuters should necessarily carry along.
Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel in order to avoid shooting stones at Lamber (Banihal).
Similarly, commuters travelling to Batote, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and adjoining areas are advised to use the old road via Patani Top while travelling from Jammu in order to avoid shooting stones at Nashri.
Passenger LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to apprehension of shooting stones, landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal and the ongoing 8 km after Nashri to Banihal work, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Goods carrier (HMV/Load Carrier) operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as the HMVs shall be allowed to ply on alternate days only.
Fruit growers and operators carrying fresh perishable fruit from Jammu are advised to load and park their vehicles in a timely manner (every morning before 8:00 AM) at designated places between NAVYUG Tunnel and Levdora on the day of opening of traffic so that the movement can be facilitated smoothly.
HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journeys on Jammu–Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journeys.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 28-07-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, SANJY Convoy, Yatra Convoy, Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e., from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
However, HMVs (Load Carriers) shall be allowed on alternate days. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing traffic.

Cut-off Timings for LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars
Vehicles released from:
Nagrota (Jammu): 0600 hrs to 1400 hrs
Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar: 0800 hrs to 1500 hrs
Qazigund towards Jammu: 1130 hrs to 1730 hrs
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about traffic advisories and cut-off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before or after the prescribed timings.
HMVs (Load Carriers)
Subject to fair weather, better road conditions and assessment of prevailing traffic situation on NH-44, HMVs shall be allowed to move from designated locations.
However:
No HMV shall be allowed to move after 1800 hrs.
TCU Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing HMVs.
Vehicles carrying empty LPG cylinders, oil tankers, empty fuel tankers, and similar vehicles shall use the Mughal Road when NH-44 convoy movement is in progress.
Army & Convoy Movement
Army and other security force vehicles are advised to plan their movement after SANJY convoy movement to facilitate smooth movement of civilian traffic.
Kishtwar – Bhaderwah – Batote (NH-244)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
Passenger/Private vehicles shall be allowed from both sides.
Kishtwar towards Bhaderwah: 0800 hrs to 1500 hrs
Doda towards Kishtwar: 0800 hrs to 1500 hrs
No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
SSG Road
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs shall be allowed from both sides.
Srinagar towards Kargil: before 0500 hrs
Minamarg towards Srinagar: between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs
Motorists are advised to carry sufficient fuel as there is no fuel station en route.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and clearance from the road maintenance agency (JKRDC), vehicular movement (LMVs only) shall be allowed from both sides.
Shopian towards Poonch: 0700 hrs – 1800 hrs
No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
