JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 31st August 2026

TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR

From 29-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 30-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane, undulating & narrow surface of the road at Dalwas, Udhampur and near the single-lane stretch between Marog and Nachipati Panthar, in addition to the breakdown of 02 vehicles at Marog and Digdol.

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Jammu/Ramban. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.

Traffic managed on regulated manner at Dalwas, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane about 30-40 min.

Passengers/LWV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/boulders as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol-Khooni Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime between 0700 hrs to 1500 hrs in the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material. It is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carrier (HMV/LWV) operators carrying fresh perishable/like stock are advised to load their vehicles as per activity issued by Traffic Police Headquarters time to time as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Operators/Owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicles which could reach the process of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/rockslide zones.

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject: Fair weather and better road conditions.

LMVs Passenger/HPV Private Cars/HMVs (Good carrying) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) after Jammu traffic control units clear. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline; overtaking/wrong lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/CPF Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar – Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244

As per order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/C/2026-2757586 dated 04-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNG/2025-2467-58 dated 03-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road condition, after giving green signal from TCU Ramban, vehicles shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from 06:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs and no vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG ROAD

As per order issued by the DivCOM Kashmir vide No. DivCom/Dev/100/2026/432-4410 dated 14-08-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.

From Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar (only after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies) up to 1100 hrs. However, HMV shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicles shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

Security forces convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to Ten tyres only shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian from 0700 hrs and from Shopian towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1300 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DM/SMP/2026-731-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
