JK News Today: Dy CM hits out at Mehbooba: ‘Why was alcohol not banned during PDP rule?’
Deputy Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Kumar Choudhary today lashed out at former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for failing to impose ban on alcohol when the PDP was in power after 2014.
He claimed whatever is being taken up in the name of alcohol ban by PDP is all “deceit” and an attempt to play with the emotions of people.
“The PDP was in power in Jammu & Kashmir after 2014. The bill to impose a ban on alcohol was also introduced at that time, but why did the then chief minister Mehbooba Mufti fail to address this grave issue? Why was the ban not imposed then?,” Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary as per Greater Kashmir told reporters in Jammu.
He accused PDP of destroying the structure of Jammu and Kashmir, and paving the way to turn J&K into union territory. “It is the PDP which is solely responsible for the crisis the people of J&K are stuck in. Mehbooba Mufti is shedding crocodile tears over the situation which she should stop. She cannot befool people for long. Not only alcohol, drugs have become a major challenge for us. Besides, Jammu has been gripped under social crimes and murders for quite some time which should be addressed without any wait. Why is the PDP silent over it? Today Mehbooba and her daughter are giving lectures to the government on what to do and what not, but we know efficiently how to work for the betterment of our people,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said that the National Conference (NC) knows how to strengthen the party, Jammu & Kashmir and the country, and those lecturing us should introspect what they committed in past.
He added that PDP in absence of tangible issues is trying to “incite” people against the National Conference-led government in Jammu & Kashmir.
When asked about few former members of banned Jama’at-e-Islami have floated a new political outfit – Justice and Development Front (JDF) – the Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary said it is a welcome step and whatever they expressed in public assembly in southern Kulgam, should be practiced in letter and spirit.
“If they (JDF) have decided to launch a political party, it is better late than never. We hope they will live up to peoples’ expectations,” he said.
He continued that from the times of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to Omar Abdullah, NC has always tried to strengthen democracy at grassroots level in J&K. He held that it is our effort from a very long time to ensure the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley in a dignified way.
Earlier, he addressed a gathering at party office Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu to commemorate the 10th death anniversary of senior party leader Late Sheikh Nazir Ahmad.
