JK News Today: Joint Search Op underway in J&K Surankote after suspected explosion
A joint search operation was launched in Surankote town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday following reports of a loud explosion-like sound. Officials said that the explosion is suspected to have occurred near an army installation in the area. Details regarding the incident are still awaited as security forces, including the army, police, and paramilitary forces, initiated the search operation.
This development comes amid heightened terrorist activities in the region, particularly in the wake of the peaceful Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections. In recent months, terrorist attacks have surged across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in districts like Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Udhampur. These attacks have often targeted both military personnel and innocent civilians.
Security forces have been ramping up their efforts to counter these threats, conducting aggressive operations against militants, their over-ground workers, and sympathizers.
