J&K Police to train its personnel for rigorous anti-terrorism operations

Jammu and Kashmir Police is all set to train its old batches for rigorous training for anti-terrorism operations. All probationary officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in the ranks of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), Sub Inspectors (SIs) and constables after completion of their training in the Police Training Academies and Centres, will, in future, also be trained in counter-terror operations.

Reports said that batches which have already completed training will be gradually trained in the operations to counter terrorism. It said that fresh training will be specific course for anti-terror operations of all kinds including hilly areas, forests, hinterland etc.

The fresh move comes as Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently stated that the Central Government plans to gradually pull back troops from Jammu and Kashmir and leave law and order to the local police force.

The reports said that not only the forthcoming batches but the offices who have already completed training will also be trained in anti-terror operations batch-wise.

“Nearly 1,000 probationary police officers, including 62 Deputy Superintendents of Police, are already undergoing a six-week long training at the Army’s counter-terror White Knight Corps battle school in Doda district,” reports said.

The integrated training programme — a first of its kind in the Union Territory has commenced on March 19.

According to police, the integrated training programme was aimed at enhancing the coordination and combined operational capabilities of both forces, which for over three decades have combated terrorism side by side.

The training is focussed on operational tactics, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism strategies, drawing on the Indian Army’s extensive experience in these fields. This joint training marks a continued commitment to security and the well-being of the region’s residents.

Of those undergoing training, 128 are female officers, including 19 DySPs and 109 Sub-Inspectors.

Such training, as per the reports, will go a long way to help police independently take on terrorism in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir including twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
