JKPS officer promoted to IGP rank, 4 to DIG rank
The Government today ordered promotion of one officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) to the rank of IGP-equivalent and four officers to DIG-equivalent, the proposals for which were cleared by a high-level committee few days back. It has also ordered promotion of 130 JKPS officers to the grade of Superintendent of Police Selection Grade (II)-Level 12 of the Pay Matrix.
Separate orders to this effect were issued today by the Home Department.
Suhail Munawar, a JKPS officer of 1999 batch has been promoted to the IGP equivalent rank.
Four JKPS officers of 1999 batch promoted to the rank of DIG-equivalent include Ramesh Kumar Angral, Mohd Arshad, Tahir Sajad Bhat and Imtiyaz Hussain Mir.
As per Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Services Recruitment Rules, 2024, there are two posts of IGP-equivalent and six posts of DIG-equivalent reserved for JKPS officers. However, the high-level committee while clearing the proposals had kept promotion proposals of two officers in sealed cover.
Sources said posting orders of the officers promoted today are expected to be issued separately.
The promotions will lead to a reshuffle in the police administration as the posts on which five officers are working will fall vacant. Some other posts are also vacant. However, the reshuffle is expected only after January 26.
Two posts identified for JKPS officers in the IGP equivalent rank include Commissioner Civil Military Liaison and Commissioner Investigations Human Rights while six posts in the DIG equivalent include Special Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Director Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Kashmir, Director Home Guards Jammu, Director Home Guards Kashmir, Additional Director State Investigation Agency (SIA) and Director Commando Training Centre (CTC) Lethpora.
Eligibility for posting of JKPS officers against the posts of Directors is 18 years while for the posts of Commissioners, the service requirement is 22 years.
