MeT Issues Heavy Rain Alert For J&K
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a spell of heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 18 and issued a flash flood advisory, warning of possible landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
According to the MeT Department, the weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid until July 17, with scattered places likely to receive brief spells of rain and thundershowers.
From July 18, weather conditions are expected to turn partly to generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places across the Union Territory. Isolated areas of the Jammu division may experience brief spells of intense rainfall.

The wet spell is likely to intensify between July 20 and 22, with light to moderate rainfall expected at most places.
The weather department said July 21 is likely to witness the peak of the rainfall activity, while isolated areas in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions may receive heavy rain or intense showers.
Another spell of rain and thundershowers has been forecast for July 23.
The MeT Department warned that heavy rainfall and brief intense showers are likely during the late night of July 18, the morning of July 19, and again between July 20 and 22, particularly during late afternoons and late night or early morning hours.

It cautioned that the heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and some hilly regions of the Kashmir division during July 20 to 22.
The department has advised people to avoid venturing near nallas and streams, remain alert for waterlogging in low-lying areas, and follow official weather advisories during the forecast period.
