Over 1.40 Lakh Students Enrolled In Skill Courses In J&K Schools
Says skill education integrated into over 25% courses at college, university level; NEP implemented across education sector
Srinagar, Sept 14 : Commissioner Secretary, School Education Department, J&K, Ram Niwas Sharma on Monday said that over 1.40 lakh students in schools are currently learning various skills, while more than 25% of colleges and universities have integrated vocational and skill education into their courses.
“There are about 140,000 students in schools who are learning skills today. Twenty-five per cent of our colleges and universities have integrated vocational and skill education in their courses,” Sharma said as per news agency that, while speaking to reporters in Srinagar.
He said Jammu and Kashmir was among the first Union Territories and states to implement the National Education Policy (NEP), with its implementation carried out at the school, college and higher education levels.
“These are very flexible programmes. You can design your degree, four-year degree programme,” he said.
As far as schools are concerned, Sharma said Balvatika 1, 2 and 3 have been started in schools and have had a significant impact.
“In the future, it is our job to make our students skillful,” he said. (JKNS)
