Srinagar: 36 licenses, RCs cancelled for violating traffic rules

In a bid to act tough against the overloading in passenger vehicles and other violations, authorities on cancelled 36 licenses and the vehicle registration certificates of those found violating the rules in Srinagar.

Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari called upon all the stakeholders including civil society members and religious clerics to educate the people on the overloading issue and traffic awareness to prevent any major accidents.

Bukhari said that keeping in view yesterday’s accident in Baramulla’s Uri area, where several people died, there is a need to educate people about road safety awareness and about overloading too.

He emphasized that the role of civil societies and religious clerics in the society is crucial, as people listen to them carefully and it is also their responsibility to address traffic violations and overloading issues.

“In Srinagar district alone, 36 licenses along with the vehicle registration certificates were cancelled for various offenses,” said the RTO.

“We will investigate on different levels, and in the future, serious action will be taken to prevent Uri like accidents,” he said, adding that the people must share their responsibility to ensure an end to the norms violations
