Telegram ban lifted in India: App returns to Play Store and Apple App Store, users may need to do this to start sending messages
Telegram services are gradually returning in India. The app is available again on app stores while users facing message delivery issues can update, force stop and reopen Telegram to reconnect.
Telegram services appear to be gradually returning for users in India after the temporary restrictions linked to the NEET-UG re-examination period. The messaging app is once again available for download via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and many users have reported that messages are being delivered normally.
However, some users continue to face issues accessing chats or sending messages even after the restrictions have been lifted. In many cases, a simple app refresh process appears to resolve the problem.
What users should do if Telegram is still not working
Users who are unable to send messages or access their chats can try updating Telegram to the latest version available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After updating the app, users should completely close Telegram and then reopen it.
To do this on Android:
Open the Google Play Store and check for Telegram updates.
Install the latest version if an update is available.
Go to Settings > Apps > Telegram.
Tap Force Stop.
Reopen Telegram and allow it a few moments to reconnect.
To do this on iPhone:
Open the App Store and update Telegram if a newer version is available.
Open the app switcher and swipe away Telegram to close it completely.
Reopen Telegram and wait for it to reconnect.
This process allows the app to establish a fresh connection with Telegram’s servers and may help restore normal functionality for users still experiencing issues.
Telegram returns to app stores
Apart from messaging services resuming, Telegram has also reappeared on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app had been unavailable during the restriction period, leading to uncertainty among users attempting to download or reinstall it.
The platform’s website is also accessible again for many users, indicating that the temporary restrictions are being rolled back.
Why was Telegram restricted?
The temporary restriction was introduced after authorities directed internet service providers to block access to Telegram over concerns that examination-related content linked to the NEET-UG re-examination could be circulated through the platform.
While normal messaging services are being restored, Telegram’s message-editing feature is expected to remain unavailable until June 30, as per earlier directions.
As services continue to stabilise, users who are still facing access issues may need to update the app, force close it and relaunch it before full functionality is restored.
