Two mortar shells, hand grenade recovered in Rajouri, Jammu

Two mortar shells and a hand grenade were detected and defused at three places in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri and Jammu districts on Tuesday, officials said.

A mortar shell was spotted by villagers in the Kandi area of Kotranka in Rajouri, following which police were informed and a team rushed to the spot and laid a cordon around the area, officials said.

The Bomb Disposal Squad was called in for further technical examination of the explosive shell.

Officials said the shell was later safely destroyed following standard safety procedures.

Authorities also restricted movement of the local population in the area during the operation as a precautionary measure.

In another incident, a hand grenade was found in agricultural fields in the Darhal area of Rajouri district on Tuesday evening, officials said.

After receiving information, a team of security forces immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, they said.

Officials said the grenade was later safely destroyed through a controlled mechanism by the security forces without causing any damage or injury.
