• India has topped the list of source markets for tourism into Sri Lanka in 2023.
• The island has welcomed 1.487 Million tourists during the last year with India contributing over 20% arrivals.
• In all over 3 lakh Indian tourists reached Sri Lanka in 2023 followed by Russia which contributed 1.97 lakh.
• Tourism contributed 2.1 billion US Dollars from 1.1 billion Dollars achieved in the previous year.

2. Sheikh Hasina’s party wins 12th national elections in Bangladesh

• Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won the re-election for a fifth term in the national election that was conducted on Sunday amidst the boycott by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by former PM Khaleda Zia, who is currently in jail.
• Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has won a fourth consecutive term in the 12th parliamentary election, marking the second lowest voter turnout since the reinstatement of democracy in 1991.

3 Golden Globes 2024: Lily Gladstone wins Best Female Actor

• Hollywood actor Lily Gladstone won the Best Female Actor- Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes for her performance in Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of The Flower Moon’.
• Gladstone has also become the first Indigenous woman to win the award, as per Variety.
• The 81st edition of the Golden Globes was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
