1. J&K Assembly Passes Resolution Seeking Restoration of Full Statehood
The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution seeking the restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir. The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the ongoing Assembly session. The move also led to heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches.
2. India’s Industrial Production Grows 8% in August 2026
India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew by 8.0% year-on-year in August 2026, compared with 6.7% in July. Manufacturing grew by 9.0%, while Electricity and Gas Supply recorded 12.3% growth.
3. KAZIND-2026 India-Kazakhstan Military Exercise Begins
A 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departed for Oskemen, Kazakhstan, for the ninth edition of KAZIND-2026. The exercise will be conducted from 28 September to 11 October 2026 and focuses on joint counter-terrorism operations, including training in mountainous and semi-urban terrain.
4. India-UAE High-Level Joint Task Force Meets
The 14th India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments was held in Mumbai on 28 September 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral investment cooperation and economic engagement.
5. International Day for Universal Access to Information
28 September is observed as the International Day for Universal Access to Information. The 2026 theme is “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The role of access to Information in addressing Information Disorder.” UNESCO and the Government of Sierra Leone are hosting the 2026 global conference from 28–30 September.

NITI Aayog launched Special Campaign 6.0 on 28 September 2026, focusing on institutionalising cleanliness and reducing pendency in government offices.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a pan-India gold smuggling network and seized approximately 6.6 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at more than ₹10 crore. Eleven people, including the alleged mastermind, were arrested.
9. Five Killed in Karnah Road Accident
A road accident on the Teetwal–Simari road in Karnah, Kupwara, reportedly left five people dead and six injured on 28 September 2026.
10. WPL 2027 Auction and Season Dates
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 is scheduled to begin on 14 January 2027 and conclude on 7 February 2027. The player auction is scheduled for 28 October 2026 in Kochi.
