1. Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah appointed as new PM Of Kuwait

  • Kuwait’s Emir has appointed Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah al-Ahmad al-Sabah as the new prime minister of Kuwait.
  • This decision follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
  • Sheikh Mohammad submitted his cabinet’s resignation on April 6, following the election of a new parliament on April 4.
  • His resignation was a procedural move after a new parliament was elected.

2. India allows export of ten thousand tonnes Of Onion to Sri Lanka

  • India has allowed export of ten thousand tonnes of onion to Sri Lanka.
  • It has also allowed an additional quota of ten thousand tonnes of Onion to the United Arab Emirates.
  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification in this regard.
  • It said, the additional ten thousand tonnes of Onion export to the United Arab Emirates is above the 24 thousand 400 tonnes allowed earlier.

3. India, Mauritius Sign Protocol To Amend Tax Treaty

  • India and Mauritius closed another lacuna in their Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), tightening the scrutiny on tax avoidance on investments coming into India.
  • The new protocol on DTAA was signed on the 7th of March this year.
  • The latest amendment includes a Principal Purpose Test (PPT) to decide whether a foreign investor is actually eligible for treaty benefits, or was the tax benefit the primary reason to route investments via Mauritius.

4. Noted Carnatic Musician K G Jayan Passes Away in Kochi

  • Noted Carnatic Musician K G Jayan (90-years) passed away at Tripunithura in Kochi early this morning.
  • Known for his devotional songs, Jayan composed more than 1000 songs and has been the music director for a few Malayalam and Tamil films.
  • He, along with his twin brother, late KG Vijayan was known in the world of South Indian music as Jaya-Vijaya brothers.
  • A Padmasree recepient, Jayan was also awarded the Kerala Sangeetha Akademi and the Harivarasanam Awards.
