Rainfall To Intensify In J&K From July 19

The Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, has forecast an intensification of rainfall activity across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19, with widespread rain and thunderstorms expected to continue until July 23.

According to the weather forecast, many parts of the Union Territory are likely to receive rain and thundershowers on July 19.

From July 20 to July 23, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places. The MeT Department has also warned that a few locations could experience brief spells of intense rainfall during this period.

In view of the forecast, the department has issued an advisory warning of the possibility of flash floods in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley, the Pir Panjal range and some hilly areas of the Kashmir Valley between July 20 and July 22.

It has also cautioned that heavy showers could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, besides triggering landslides, mudslides and shooting stones along vulnerable stretches, particularly on hilly roads and highways.

The MeT Department has advised residents, commuters and tourists to remain vigilant, follow official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during the forecast period.

Authorities have urged people living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official advisories as the wet spell is expected to intensify over the coming days.
