Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 23rd Sep 2026,NH-44 Traffic Update & Travel Guidelines

From 21-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 22-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to the single-lane, undulating and uneven surface of the road at Dhalwal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Nachil Pather. In addition, the breakdown of 03 vehicles between Nashri and Ramsoo and the movement of 09 nomadic herds crossing Ganga/Nachina also affected traffic movement.

Owing to the ongoing movement of nomadic herds on the single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwar Pather, traffic is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.

Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dhalwal, Udhampur on NH-44, due to a single-lane stretch of about 30–40 metres.

Passengers/LMV operators are advised to prefer travelling on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads from the valley, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of widening works being undertaken by NHAI on the DigdoI–Khooni Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh/perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners conduct thorough checks on the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 23-09-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles/HPVs, private cars and HMVs (goods carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking and wrong-lane driving, as these may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/SF Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

They shall move after confirming the status of NH-44 from TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per orders issued by the Chhatroo and SDM Kokernag, subject to fair weather and good road conditions and after getting the green signal from road maintenance agencies (NHAI/OCNL), LMVs/passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move:

From Pangam towards Srinagar: 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs

From Daksum towards Kishtwar: 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs

No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.

SSG Road

As per the order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri Road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move after receiving the green signal from the road maintenance agencies up to 1300 hrs.

However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road.

TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

Security Forces’ convoys moving on the SSG Road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency, GREF, vehicular movement followed by HMVs up to 10-ton capacity shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move:

From Chandimarh (Buffliaz) towards Shopian: 0700 hrs to 1800 hrs

From Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch: 0700 hrs to 1800 hrs

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.

ADVISORY

People are advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the concerned Traffic Control Units.
