Article 370 abrogation ended terrorism, stone-pelting in J&K: Azad

“Increase in terror incidents in Rajouri-Poonch cause of concern”

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad, expressed his concern on Sunday regarding the rise in terrorist incidents in the Rajouri-Poonch region of the Jammu division.

Azad stated that the central government’s decision to revoke Article 370 and downgrade the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir was not beneficial for the people of the region. However, he acknowledged that it had resulted in the cessation of terrorism, strikes, and stone-pelting.

Despite this, he expressed worry over three recent incidents in Rajouri and Poonch, particularly as the region does not have the challenging terrain found in Kashmir, Chenab Valley, Udhampur, or Kathua.

Highlighting the long-standing presence of the Army, BSF, and CRPF in Rajouri and Poonch since 1947, Azad stressed that the occurrence of such incidents despite their presence was a cause for concern. He expressed hope that the central government, similar to the visit by the Union Minister to meet affected families, would take appropriate action.

Azad emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among various stakeholders, including the state police, intelligence agencies, army, and paramilitary forces.

He also called upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir to remain vigilant, as terrorism is detrimental to everyone’s interests.
