Billawar Women Among First Batch of Five Women Officers Commissioned in Artillery

Five women officers have been commissioned into the Indian Army’s Regiment of 1, a first in Indian military history, Three  of the five female officers have been deployed to frontline units along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, marking the first time in Indian military history that female officers have been commissioned into the Indian Army’s Regiment of 1.

After successfully completing their training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai, Lt Mehak Saini, Lt Sakshi Dubey, Lt Aditi Yadav, Lt Pious Mudgil, and Lt Akanksha have joined the Army’s elite artillery battalions. The other two are deployed in hazardous places close to Pakistan’s border, while three of the five female officers are assigned to forces stationed near China’s frontiers.

The young female officers, according to the sources, are being placed in variety of significant artillery units, where they will receive the instruction and practical experience required to operate rockets, field surveillance and target acquisition (SATA) systems, and other critical tools in challenging environments
