Commercial LPG prices cut by over Rs 200 in Delhi, Kolkata; domestic rates unchanged

The cut in commercial LPG prices provides a boost to businesses by lowering a key operating expense, easing cost pressures for restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments.

The latest move marks the second reduction in commercial LPG prices following a period of sharp increases in recent months.

Restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments have received some relief from high cooking fuel costs, with the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders being reduced by more than Rs 200 in Delhi and Kolkata.

The latest revision, which took effect on August 1, saw the price of a commercial cylinder fall by Rs 202 in Delhi and Rs 209 in Kolkata. In Kolkata, the revised price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder stands at Rs 2,872.50, according to sources cited by news agency ANI.

The reduction, however, is limited to commercial LPG users. Prices of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders used by households remain unchanged.

The latest move marks the second reduction in commercial LPG prices following a period of sharp increases in recent months. Commercial users had faced higher fuel costs amid disruptions and supply concerns in global LPG markets linked to the conflict in West Asia.

The price cuts could provide some breathing room to businesses such as restaurants, hotels and catering establishments, for which LPG is a significant operating expense. The lower input cost may also offer some support to the broader hospitality and food-services sector.

The reduction comes as global energy markets continue to adjust to supply risks arising from geopolitical tensions in the region. While the impact of the West Asia crisis has contributed to volatility in fuel prices, the latest LPG revision provides some relief to commercial consumers in key markets.

The government has kept domestic cooking gas prices unchanged in the latest revision, leaving household LPG rates unaffected.
