Heavy rainfall triggered a cloudburst at the under-construction Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district late Sunday night, causing widespread disruption at the project site.

The cloudburst sent a massive flow of mud, rocks and debris crashing into the area, burying several vehicles under the debris. Officials are assessing the extent of the damage, while the situation continues to be monitored.

Visuals shared online from the affected areas show the extent of the damage caused by the cloudburst and heavy rainfall. Several vehicles, including trucks and tankers, can be seen partially buried under thick layers of mud, rocks and debris at the Kwar Hydroelectric Project site in Kishtwar. The footage also captures heavy earthmoving machinery clearing slush and boulders from the affected stretch as restoration work continues.

The visuals further show large rocks scattered across the road and vehicles stranded amid the debris, highlighting the impact of the cloudburst on the project site and surrounding infrastructure. Authorities continue to assess the damage while efforts remain focused on clearing the affected areas and restoring connectivity.

Landslide Blocks Jammu-Kishtwar Highway

In a separate incident, incessant rainfall triggered a landslide in the Prem Nagar area of Doda district, blocking the crucial Jammu-Kishtwar Highway.

Authorities have deployed teams to the affected stretch to clear the debris and restore traffic on the Jammu-Kishtwar Highway at the earliest.
