Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 16th Sep 2026 : NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road & Mughal Road Traffic Plan

J&K Traffic Police Advisory

The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a detailed J&K Traffic Advisory for September 16, 2026, in view of slow traffic movement, ongoing road construction and maintenance work, and the possibility of inclement weather across several stretches.

Commuters have been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey and follow the instructions of Traffic Police personnel.

Slow Traffic Movement on NH-44

Traffic Police reported very slow movement on NH-44 due to:

Single-lane traffic at several stretches.

Undulating and uneven road surfaces at Dawal, Udhampur.

Single-lane traffic between Marog and Kishtwar Pather.

Breakdown of vehicles at Mehad and Gund, Banihal.

Movement of nomadic herds crossing the Banihal–Nashri stretch.

Traffic was being managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur, where the single-lane stretch is around 30–40 metres.

Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near construction areas.

Weather Alert and Travel Advisory

In view of the inclement weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department, including the possibility of rainfall over the next few days, the Traffic Police has advised commuters to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road.

Travellers should check the latest updates through the Traffic Police control rooms and official social media channels before leaving.

Night travel on NH-44 should preferably be avoided because of the possibility of shooting stones, landslides and other weather-related disruptions.

Important Advisory for Passengers and LMV Operators

Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators have been advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during daytime.

Night travel should be avoided due to:

Shooting stones and landslides.

Movement of nomadic herds from the valley.

Ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

Possible traffic disruptions and congestion.

Restrictions on Kashmir-Bound Oil Tankers

The movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers will remain restricted on the concerned NH-44 stretch during daytime between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Movement of tankers carrying inflammable material is also subject to restrictions. Tanker operators have been advised to carefully plan their journeys and avoid inconvenience and safety risks.

Advisory for Goods Carriers

Goods carriers, particularly those transporting fresh and perishable goods, have been advised to load their vehicles according to the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.

The advisory is important because of the possibility of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

Instructions for HMVs

Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operators and owners have been asked to:

Avoid overloading their vehicles.

Carry sufficient fuel during the journey.

Check the fitness of their vehicles before travelling.

Follow the latest traffic restrictions on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.

Traffic Plan for September 16, 2026 – Jammu-Srinagar NH-44

Subject to favourable weather and road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and HMVs/goods carriers may be allowed from both sides of Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid wrong-side driving, as such violations can result in congestion.

The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the latest road conditions.

Army/Security Forces Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security forces’ vehicles will be allowed to move on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 from both sides, i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

The movement will take place after confirmation of the highway status from TCU Ramban.

NH-244: Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag Road

As per the traffic plan, movement on NH-244 will be subject to favourable weather and good road conditions and clearance from the road maintenance agency.

LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed from both sides on the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag route.

Vehicles will be permitted to move during the specified daytime window, with traffic authorities directing motorists according to road conditions.

No vehicle will be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timing.

SSG Road Traffic Update

On the SSG Road, movement will also remain dependent on weather and road conditions and clearance from the concerned authorities.

LMVs will be allowed from both sides on the Sonamarg–Gumri road, including movement towards Kargil and vice versa, after receiving the green signal from the road maintenance agency.

HMVs will be subject to separate movement timings. Motorists travelling on this route have been advised to carry anti-skid chains, particularly because of changing weather and road conditions.

Motorists should also follow the directions of Traffic Police and road maintenance agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Mughal Road Traffic Advisory

On Mughal Road (NH-701A), subject to fair weather and good road conditions and clearance from the road maintenance agency, vehicular movement will be allowed.

LMVs followed by HMVs of up to 10 tyres will be permitted to move on the route.

Movement will take place between Poonch and Shopian and vice versa during the prescribed daytime hours.

No vehicle will be allowed to proceed after the notified cut-off timing.

Commuters Advised to Check Road Status

Traffic Police has urged people to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the concerned Traffic Control Units.

Travellers can contact the respective traffic control rooms for the latest information before starting their journey.

The advisory is particularly important for commuters travelling on NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road and Mughal Road, as weather conditions, landslides, shooting stones, construction activity and road maintenance work may affect traffic movement.
