JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 17th May 2026
From 15-05-2026, 1600 hrs to 16-05-2026, 1600 hrs, slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane conditions between Marog and Kishatwar Pather, in addition to movement of 15 nomadic herds (crossing Nachlana–Banihal).
Owing to ongoing movement of 05 nomadic herds, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishatwar Pather is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
Passengers/LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu–Srinagar NH during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads towards valley, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
NH-44 (NHW) :
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions:
LMVs / Passenger / Private Cars / HMVs (Good carriers) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NH (NH-44) via Jammu–Udhampur–Ramban–Banihal–Qazigund.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline; overtaking and wrong-lane driving will cause congestion.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
SFS Convoy Movement :
Subject to fair weather and good road condition:
Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NH (NH-44) via Jammu–Udhampur–Ramban–Banihal–Qazigund.
They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244 :
As per order issued by the SDM Chadoora vide No. SDM/Ch/2026/27/149-56 dated 05-05-2026 and SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNG/26-27/201 dated 01-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road condition, after clearing snow from Panthapora and Kishtwar, only LMVs / Passenger / Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from Srinagar towards Kishtwar via Dachigam–Sinthan Top.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Daksum between 1030 hrs to 1530 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after cutoff time.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cutoff timing.
SSG ROAD :
As per order issued by the DIVCOM Kashmir vide No. Div-Com/Dev/100/2026/4392-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road (i.e., from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa).
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Sonamarg towards Srinagar from 0800 hrs.
HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1500 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1500 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil shall ensure that cutoff timing is strictly followed.
SFS convoy moving from Srinagar towards Kargil shall plan its movement in such a manner that cutoff timing is not disturbed.
Mughal Road :
As per orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DMS/ADM-P/25-26/278-85 dated 22-04-2026 and District Magistrate, Poonch vide No. DM/P/376-91 dated 22-04-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs followed by HMVs up to six tyres only shall be allowed on Mughal Road from both sides.
LMVs shall be allowed from both sides i.e., from Shopian (towards Poonch) between 0700 hrs and 1700 hrs, and from Poonch (towards Shopian) between 1000 hrs and 1700 hrs, after obtaining clearance from the Road Maintenance Agency (RMA).
No vehicle shall be allowed after cutoff timing.
ADVISORY :
People are advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units and concerned authorities.
