MeT forecasts heavy rains across J&K for next 3 days
Heavy rain and thundershowers are likely across J&K over the next three days, with the weatherman forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few districts of Jammu division and brief intense heavy showers at a few places in Kashmir division.
The main spell is expected on August 11, when one or two districts may receive heavy to very heavy rain during the night.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at most places from August 9 to 11, with heavy rain and brief intense showers possible in a few districts.
It warned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The wet spell is likely to continue from August 12 to 16, though with reduced intensity, with light rain or thundershowers expected at many places and brief intense showers at a few locations.

Another spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is forecast at many places from August 17 to 19, with brief intense heavy showers possible at a few places.
The latest daily weather parameters issued by the India Meteorological Department showed Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 30.4°C against a normal of 30°C and a minimum of 19°C against 18.6°C.
The city received no rain between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, while 0.7 mm was recorded in the preceding 24 hours.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 29.6°C against a normal of 28°C and a minimum of 18.6°C against 16.7°C, receiving 4.9 mm rainfall in 24 hours.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 25.2°C against 25.6°C normal and a minimum of 15.5°C against 13.8°C, with trace rainfall during the day and 6 mm in the preceding 24 hours.
Kupwara recorded a maximum of 28.8°C against 31.1°C normal and a minimum of 17°C against 17.3°C, while 0.3 mm rainfall was recorded in 24 hours.
Gulmarg recorded the lowest maximum temperature among the listed Kashmir stations at 19.8°C against a normal of 20.7°C. Its minimum was 11.2°C against 12.1°C normal, while the station received 2.6 mm rainfall in 24 hours.
In Jammu division, Jammu recorded a maximum of 33.6°C against 33.1°C normal and a minimum of 25.3°C, exactly at the normal level. It received 0.4 mm rainfall in 24 hours.
Banihal recorded a maximum of 29.6°C against 28.2°C normal and a minimum of 18.4°C against 18°C, receiving 13 mm rainfall in 24 hours.
Katra recorded a maximum of 31.5°C against 29.5°C normal and a minimum of 23.4°C against 23.2°C, while 2.2 mm rainfall was recorded in 24 hours.
The forecast comes against the backdrop of above-normal seasonal rainfall across J&K.
The Union Territory received 352.8 mm rainfall between June 1 and August 5 against a normal of 305.5 mm, registering a 15 per cent surplus.
District-wise, Anantnag recorded 234.4 mm rainfall against 180.6 mm normal, a 30 per cent surplus; Budgam 116.2 mm against 117.3 mm, a 1 per cent deficit; Bandipora 168.2 mm against 127.5 mm, a 32 per cent surplus; Baramulla 234 mm against 124.6 mm, an 88 per cent surplus; Doda 241.9 mm against 245.1 mm, a 1 per cent deficit; and Ganderbal 256.9 mm against 150.7 mm, a 70 per cent surplus.
Jammu recorded 500.2 mm against 539.9 mm normal, a 7 per cent deficit; Kargil 17.2 mm against 5.9 mm, a 192 per cent surplus; Kathua 576.9 mm against 722 mm, a 20 per cent deficit; Kishtwar 152 mm against 245.1 mm, a 38 per cent deficit; Kulgam 183.9 mm against 184.2 mm, virtually normal; and Kupwara 184.8 mm against 152.8 mm, a 21 per cent surplus.
Ladakh recorded 47.1 mm against 15.7 mm normal, a 200 per cent surplus; Poonch 599.5 mm against 403.5 mm, a 49 per cent surplus; and Pulwama 168 mm against 103.4 mm, a 62 per cent surplus. Rajouri recorded 512.6 mm against 367.7 mm, a 39 per cent surplus; Ramban 371.7 mm against 228.9 mm, a 62 per cent surplus; and Reasi 816.4 mm against 840.1 mm, a 3 per cent deficit.
Samba recorded 642 mm against 394.3 mm normal, a 63 per cent surplus; Shopian 76.7 mm against 166.9 mm, a 54 per cent deficit; Srinagar 208.5 mm against 136 mm, a 53 per cent surplus; and Udhampur 1,060.7 mm against 554.9 mm, a 91 per cent surplus, the highest among the listed J&K districts.
With the most intense activity expected on August 11, the weather office has advised caution in vulnerable areas, particularly those prone to flash floods, landslides and waterlogging.
