Several Kashmir Districts to Conduct Air Raid and Blackout Mock Drills
Srinagar: The district administrations of Kupwara and Anantnag have scheduled civil defence air raid and blackout mock drills as part of district-wide emergency preparedness efforts, issuing detailed public advisories.
As per official notifications, Kupwara will conduct the exercise on April 24, with a mock drill at 3:30 PM followed by a blackout from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM. In Anantnag, the exercise is planned for April 23, with a similar daytime drill at 3:30 PM and a blackout during the same evening time window.
Officials said the objective is to familiarize residents with emergency response procedures during crisis or blackout situations and to evaluate the readiness of both the public and local administration.
Residents have been instructed to strictly adhere to guidelines during the blackout, including switching off all lights and sources of illumination—such as inverters, solar lights, mobile flashlights, and vehicle lights—immediately after the siren.
Authorities also advised people to cover windows or draw curtains to prevent light leakage and to ensure the safety and comfort of elderly individuals, children, and those with health conditions.
The administrations clarified that essential and emergency services will continue to operate throughout the exercise and emphasized that the drill is only a precautionary measure, urging the public to remain calm and cooperate fully. (Agencies)

The District Administration Anantnag has issued a public notice announcing a Civil Defence Air Raid Blackout Mock Exercise to be conducted across the district on April 23, 2026, as part of emergency preparedness measures.
As per the notice issued by District Magistrate Anantnag Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat as per news agency the drill will take place at 3:30 PM, followed by a blackout exercise from 08:00 PM to 08:10 PM.

The exercise is aimed at familiarizing the public with emergency response protocols during blackout or crisis situations and assessing the preparedness of both citizens and administration.
The administration has advised the public to strictly adhere to instructions, including switching off all lights and sources of illumination immediately after the siren, covering windows to prevent light leakage, and remaining calm as the exercise is only a mock drill.
