President confers Shaurya Chakra on 5 from J&K Police, 1 VDC member

For the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir Police, five Shaurya Chakras were bestowed upon five J&K Police officers and personnel on Friday for their courage and bravery while serving the nation while a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member was also conferred the prestigious medal.

A statement of the J&K Police issued here said that the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the Shaurya Chakra upon SgCt Saifullah Qadri (posthumously), DySP (now SP) Mohan Lal, SI Amit Raina, SI Feroz Ahmad, and Constable Varun Singh of J&K Police at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday.

The President also conferred Shaurya Chakra on VDC member, Parshotam Kumar of Rajouri.

Lauding the courage and bravery of these gallant officers, Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Ranjan Swain congratulated them and their families.

In his message, the DGP said that the brave officers and officials had brought honour and glory to the J&K Police family with their dedication, devotion, and service to the nation, which had been recognised at the highest level.

“This recognition shows the exemplary commitment of one of the finest Police forces of the country,” he said.

The DGP thanked President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and officers of the Ministry of Defence, the Central government and J&K government for recognising the valour and sacrifices of J&K Police.

He also thanked the people of J&K for their unwavering support of the force.

The Ministry of Defence announced Shaurya Chakras to these J&K Police officers and personnel and a VDC member on Independence Day 2023 and Republic Day 2024.
