Two Labourers Killed in Landslide Near Jingchan
Leh/Ladakh, Sep 17: Two labourers were killed after loose soil collapsed during road construction work near Jingchan, under Leh jurisdiction, on Thursday.
The incident occurred during construction of the road leading to Ralakung village in Zanskar. The road project is being executed under the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, Zanskar. The sudden collapse of loose soil trapped two labourers beneath the debris.

According to sources, the rescue operation was carried out by Ladakh Police personnel from Zanskar Police Station and the Tungri Rescue Team, with assistance from the CRPF and Indian Army. After sustained efforts, both buried labourers were recovered from the debris. Police personnel from the Leh jurisdiction reached the spot after the rescue operation, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Hamid, 24, son of Mohd Safi, and Pawan Kumar, 26, both residents of Kishtwar.
Three other labourers sustained injuries and were shifted for medical treatment. They have been identified as Ghulam Mohd, 35, son of Mohd Ramzan; Omar Wani, son of Zohar Ahmed; and Muneeb Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed, all residents of Kishtwar. Muneeb Bashir was reported to be in stable condition.
All the labourers were working under a J&K-based contractor engaged in the road construction project.
