Fresh Rain Spell Likely From June 30; MeT Issues Flash Flood, Thunderstorm Advisory for J&K
Director MeT Predicts Pre-Monsoon Showers, Gusty Winds and Isolated Hailstorms; Public Asked to Avoid Vulnerable Areas
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally dry weather during the next few days, followed by a fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir from June 30 to July 3, with possibilities of intense showers, gusty winds and localized weather-related hazards.

Director Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency that weather is expected to remain generally dry during the forenoon and afternoon from June 25 to June 29, with chances of light rain, brief thundershowers and gusty winds at scattered places during late afternoon and evening hours.
He said pre-monsoon showers are also likely over the plains of Jammu and adjoining areas, mainly during late night and morning hours between June 25 and June 29.
Dr. Mukhtar further said that from June 30 to July 3, Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, accompanied by brief periods of intense heavy rainfall, thunder and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, the MeT Department has issued an advisory asking orchardists to undertake spray activities during early morning hours.
The department also advised people to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during thunderstorms and strong winds. Boating and Shikara rides should be suspended during periods of lightning and gusty winds, it said.
The advisory warned of the possibility of isolated hailstorms during late afternoon hours and cautioned that brief intense showers could trigger flash floods and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

People have also been advised to avoid venturing near nallahs, streams and landslide-prone zones during the forecast period.
